Why should we study Baptist Heritage?

Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Russian dissident, said; “To destroy a people you must first sever their roots.” There is an effort to do this to Baptists. It started with the Reformation, but didn't start to have a major effect on Baptists until after the Civil War.

Most people in most baptist churches, believe that Baptists are just another denomination. If we don't teach our people the truth about our origins and
heritage we will continue to lose what we have.

It is important to remember our past. In Joshua Chapter 4 God commanded the Israelites to set up 12 stones as a monument to remind them of their crossing over Jordan, In Joshua 4:6-7 God told them why; “That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and  these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.”

In 2 Peter Chapter 1, Paul had spoken of the things we are to add to our faith, the very things that our Baptist ancestors lived by, and then in verses 12 and 13 he said; “Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;”

Hebrews Chapter 11 reminds us of those who went before us, and the price they paid. A study of our Baptist heritage will introduce you to others who suffered greatly so we might have the pure Gospel today. Between 50 and 60 million Baptists died for the defense of this Gospel just during the Dark Ages.

Dr. Pierre Coovert, Guest Speaker

Dr. Pierre Coovert Solid Foundation MinistriesDr. Pierre Coovert is the founder of Solid Foundation Ministries. He did not start out as a Baptist, and it cost him to become one. He was in the Army for 10 years and reached the rank of captain. He is an experienced missionary, pastor, and evangelist. He has a masters and doctorate in theology from Canterbury University in the United Kingdom.

In over 40 years of ministry there isn't much he hasn't encountered. In the 60 years since he was saved, he has seen major changes in the attitudes of Christians in general, and Baptists in particular.

Solid Foundation Ministries was born out of the desire to see us return to the foundations which kept Baptists pure for nearly 2,000 years. Had our Baptist ancestors not been willing to stand for “the faith once delivered to the saints,” at great cost to themselves, we would not have the Gospel today.

Scripture seems to teach that we will see difficult times, times of persecution, before the Rapture of the saints. We need to stand upon the solid foundation of Scripture, both in our doctrine, and our conduct.
